Fixed Rate Shipping

Fixed Rate Shipping

This document outlines the CIS Fixed Rate Shipping feature - what it is, the benefits it provides, and how to configure and use it on your ecommerce website.

CIS Fixed Rate Shipping allows you to assign a fixed shipping cost to any state, postcode, delivery type, or even specific products. This gives businesses full control over shipping fees, ensuring predictable shipping costs across orders and reducing the risk of unexpectedly high live rates appearing at checkout. With consistent pricing, customers enjoy a clearer checkout experience, which can help improve conversion rates. The feature also makes it easier to set tailored shipping rates for local delivery areas.

For Shopify app users in particular, shipping zones can only be created by state, which often limits the ability to apply accurate shipping cost for such a large region. CIS Fixed Rate Shipping overcomes this limitation by allowing businesses to set rates at the postcode level. This means you can differentiate between metro and regional areas within the same state based on postcode ranges.

If a fixed rate is not configured for a delivery type or zone, your customers will still see live Big Post shipping rates as normal - allowing full flexibility in how and where fixed pricing is applied.

Configuring Fixed Rate Shipping

Navigate to the 'Fixed Rates' tab in the Big Post CIS Settings.

Adding a Zone

  1. Zones can be created containing States or Postcodes, and must be named.
  2. You must click submit to create the zone.
  3. Each Fixed Rate must have its own Zone created and ticked in the next step.
Add Zone via State:

Add Zone via Postcode/s:

Once a zone is added, you will see this on the right hand side under 'Zones':

Add Fixed Rate

When adding a Fixed Rate, tick the Zone, the Warehouse (or pickup location) and the Job Types for which the Fixed Rate should apply. To enable it immediately, also tick 'Enable this rule', otherwise the rate will be created but will not be active.

You can also have specific rates for specified weight brackets. The fixed rate will only be applied if it's within the weight bracket. The weight is taken from the product information entered in the CIS.

For example, see screenshot below, the fixed rate of $100 will show if it meets the following conditions:
  1. The delivery address is in NSW or Victoria
  2. The product being ordered is available in the Melbourne warehouse
  3. Only applies to Home Delivery
  4. Applies only if the weight of the product/s is between 0kg-50kg (The weight is calculated as the sum of all products. For e.g. If a product weighs 20kg and someone orders 3 of them, then the weight is calculated as 60kg for Fixed Rates. In this example, if someone did order 3 cartons that weigh 20kg each, then live rates will be displayed as there are no fixed rates set for products above 50kg.)

Once a fixed rate has been added, it will show on the right hand side.

Product Fixed Rates

Navigate to the Products section in the CIS and click 'edit' on the product you would like to customise. Then, tick 'Use Fixed Rate', add a fixed rate for this product and click 'Save'.

Alert
Please note that Product Fixed Rates will override any Zone Fixed Rate.

For example, in the above scenario a $100 fixed rate is set for zone NSW and VIC and Home Delivery. However, if a buyer orders this particular product to NSW or Victoria and selects home delivery, the Product-Fixed Rate $200 will be shown.

Managing Fixed Rates

Once you've added a Fixed Rate, you can edit it, turn it off temporarily or remove it.

Editing a Fixed Rate

To edit a fixed rate, click on the 'Edit' button. This will load the fixed rate on the left panel, where you can make any changes as required. Click submit, to save your changes.

To remove a fixed rate, you have two options depending on whether you want to remove them temporarily or permanently.

Permanently Delete

To permanently remove a fixed rate, click the 'Delete' button for the relevant rate.

Temporarily Disable

To temporarily disable fixed rates, click on 'Edit', untick the box 'Enable this rule' and click 'Submit'.

Enable a Fixed Rate

To enable a fixed rate that was disabled or hasn't been enabled yet, click on 'Edit', tick the box 'Enable this rule' and click 'Submit'

Alert
Please note, if a fixed rate is not added to a particular delivery type or zone, then live Big Post shipping rates will be shown as normal.

Feel free to email us if you have any questions or require any assistance with the setup.
